Our Leadership Team

Terry Fairbanks

Dr. Fairbanks is a recognized leader in patient safety, human factors engineering, and medical simulation. His expertise centers on the application of system safety engineering methods in healthcare. In 2010, he founded the National Center for Human Factors Engineering in Healthcare, part of MedStar Health’s MedStar Institute for Innovation in Washington, D.C. A former paramedic and EMS medical director, Dr. Fairbanks practices emergency medicine at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center.


Bill Sheahan

In his role as Corporate Vice President, Bill oversees daily operations of all areas of the organization. In collaboration with Dr. Fairbanks, Bill develops and implements the strategic direction of MedStar SiTEL in support of MedStar Health’s mission and vision. Bill joined MedStar SiTEL in 2013 after spending three years leading an academic research program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York.


Daria Shumaker

Daria is an educator with over 35 years of professional nursing and leadership experience in a variety of clinical, management and education roles. An expert in using blended learning and clinical simulation for adult learners in healthcare, Daria has led the development of education programs focused on medical decision-making, patient safety, technical skills, and teamwork and communication.


Terry McPherson

With 25 years of expertise in distributed application development, learning management systems, P&L/general management, sales and customer service, and technical implementation strategy, Terry has an international track record of technical leadership and business acumen. As a senior level manager for diverse organizations, Terry planned and managed web-based development operations of $12M technology centers in India, Russia, Australia, and China.


Mary Calabrese

Mary has 25 years of healthcare experience as an intensive care nurse, simulation educator, and staff development educator. Her expertise includes utilizing simulation to assess health systems for crisis events, managing multiple healthcare simulation technologies, nursing and health science curricular integration, and health system integration.


John Yosaitis

Dr. Yosaitis has over 25 years of experience as an anesthesiologist. He has leadership experience in multiple clinical, management and education roles. A former biomedical engineer from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Yosaitis started his medical career at National Institutes of Health as both a clinical anesthesiologist and researcher. At MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Yosaitis served as a transplant anesthesiologist, an educator, and medical director of the bloodless surgery program.


James Cowgill

With over 15 years of experience in game and simulation development, James has been a pioneer in creating serious games and interactive training simulators that merge commercial production values with institutional knowledge. His expertise includes creative direction, game design, production, and QA management.


Polly Thompson

Polly leads MedStar SiTEL’s Project Management Office. She brings 20 years of varying business experience to MedStar SiTEL, with over 10 years of expertise in project management. Polly has worked in the information technology and airlines industries, and her projects have included broad training initiatives, web-based technology projects, voice-based technology projects, a large-scale airline reservations system cutover, and an enterprise resource planning implementation.


LaChelle Robinson

With over 15 years of administrative healthcare experience, LaChelle is the business manager for MedStar SiTEL. Her responsibilities encompass many aspects of the business, including daily office operations, financial management, human resources, space and facilities management, and supervision of the administrative staff.  She is also responsible for providing administrative support to the managing director.
